One project leads to another…

Picasso said, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.” I agree.

If my messy studio is any indication of being deep into creating-I guess it’s visible.

On the tail of publishing the book, “Learning English with Cat Idioms,” I’m rotating around my studio room like a whirling dervish. It’s almost November, so I’m finishing up small paintings to make into printed holiday cards. Then there’s the wild animals I love painting, so, a wintry acrylic polar bear calls me back every few days to add layers. I’ve started on the dog idiom book; continue with a masters studies (Klimpt this time); I’ve started practicing 10 minute dog sketches-all going on in my home studio. Every couple of weeks I’m plein air drawing and collaging with friends, too, oh my!

So, that’s what’s going on in my studio. I meditate, practice tai chi, walk to help “ground” me. But mostly I’m moving from table to table, to easel, to desk in my home studio. Soon I’ll need to clean the studio, complete something, and downsize the crowd of things calling me. I’ll focus on one, but for now I’m riding the wave and dancing from project to project. Why so many projects? Because…

Each time I make something, I think of 5 more possibilities. I love this vision, potential, beginning.

Challenges with all this constant inspiration? I have to focus and slow down to do skillful work and complete one project at a time. Psychologically, I need to let go of the undone and accept the process. I need to rest and pay attention to other things like healthy meals, exercise, relationships, errands. Sound familiar to anyone? It helps me to journal and to put the inspired ideas down on paper and let them ride. The most important will rise to the top like cream or I’ll return to them again and again…later.

Now the most exciting and prominent PROJECT is the publication of the book, and this Friday’s celebration at a local bar/restaurant. I’d love for you to add it to your shelf, share it with a local library or friend. Thanks!
