A Handpainted Greeting Card Is Tiny Art You Can Mail
Why hand-painted art rather than prints?
Painting tiny art is a great way to tackle many scenes, and they are so portable. I can paint in a cafe, at the kitchen table or studio desk. I do it a lot and have accumulated lots of tiny paintings over the last couple of years. Sometimes I practice outdoors and other times I use reference pictures to inspire pieces.Or I pick a theme. Here you’ll see “tiles” and “bugs” and “sky” as example themes.
Tiny art allows me to experiment with repeat versions of one subject. I can experiment with color mixing, values, or tackle a subject as a small sample before making a larger work. What do i do with most of them? Tuck them away in drawers or the cabinet.
This month I’ve been cleaning the cupboards again, and having found so many tiny watercolor and gouache paintings, I’ve made them into hand-painted cards with decorative paper. Each one is unique, one-of-a-kind art.
I often use printed pictures and will have some available for holidays each year, but this is my August Special offer, which you may have seen on social media.
